Chapter Six

ONE MOMENT MITARU was holding his mate in his arms—his mate, a princess of Faerie—and kissing the breath out of her, the next he was holding air.

He stumbled forward and caught his balance.

He glanced down at Glory and almost collapsed in relief when he saw her eyes were open and she was staring up at him.

“My princess.” He knelt beside her and helped her sit up. “How are you feeling?”

“I—” She touched her lips with trembling fingers. “I don’t know.”

Mitaru caught her hand in his and lifted it to his lips, where he placed a kiss in the palm of her hand, then cradled it against his cheek. “I have waited an eternity to lay eyes upon you. That you were not of flesh and bone when we first met was of no consequence. I would have you at my side in whatever form you might take, sweet mate of mine.”

“Mitaru,” Glory whispered.

MItaru was aware that Kalina and Thorne had stepped away to give them privacy.

“I know I am not worthy of a princess of the realm, but I will spend all my days attempting to be worthy of you, my love.”

“How could a Guardian of the Veil, a Fae willing to sacrifice his life for the good of Faerie and all the Fae, not be worthy of a princess of the realm? Mitaru, I am the one who is not worthy of you.”

Mitaru could barely contain the joy he felt at the acceptance that shone in Glory’s eyes.

“I didn’t even recognize you as my mate,” Glory said. “You were an itch under the skin I couldn’t even feel, but I didn’t understand until now. Mitaru, forgive me for not seeing you clearly.”

“There is nothing to forgive, sweet Glory.” To prove it, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her again.

Long moments swirled by, but then Kalina and Thorne were there, pulling them up and apart.

“And that’s enough of that,” Kalina said. “We need to wake the other Guardians so that we can celebrate this mating in style.”

Mitaru groaned. “Thanks a lot, Kalina.”

“Hey, you made sure I had a fabulous mating ceremony. I can only do the same for you.”

“I found Nako,” Thorne announced. “Would you start with him, please, Glory?”

“Of course. Lead us to him.”

He wasn’t far from where Glory had fallen.

In fact, Glory thought she’d seen him the day the Veils fell. He’d been there at one point, asked a question maybe.

It seemed to take forever to tap into the magic now that she was skin and flesh and bone. Much longer than it had taken when she was simply mist and so much closer to the raw power that lived inside her.

Still, she found the magic and sent it a rush of energy, asking it to waken.

Guardians began to stir all over the Mall.

Confusion reigned as they tried to figure out what had happened.

Glory sent a ripple of reassurance along the bonds that connected all of the Fae and made quick, reassuring speeches as she moved through the crowd toward where she had left her Royal Guard.
